When you're planning an event, choosing the right invitation platform makes a bigger difference than you'd think. A good platform saves you hours of follow-up, gives you real-time RSVP data, and makes your invitation look beautiful without requiring design skills. A bad one wastes your time and leaves you chasing guests by text.

I've used most of the popular tools myself — for my own events and while building Occazion. Here's an honest look at five free digital invitation platforms with RSVP tracking, what each one does well, and where they fall short.

1. Evite

Evite is one of the oldest names in digital invitations, and it's still widely used — especially in the US. The free tier includes a decent selection of templates and basic RSVP tracking. Guests receive an email invitation and can respond directly.

The downside: the free version displays ads on your invitation page, which can feel a bit jarring for a personal event like a birthday or baby shower. The templates, while plentiful, tend to lean casual rather than elegant. If you're planning something that needs a polished look, you'll hit the paywall quickly.

Best for: casual events, kids' parties, quick invitations where aesthetics aren't the priority.

2. Paperless Post

Paperless Post is known for having some of the most beautifully designed invitation templates in the space — many in collaboration with well-known designers and brands. The animated envelope reveal when a guest opens their invitation is a lovely touch that guests genuinely love.

The catch: the free tier is quite limited. Most of the premium templates require 'coins' (their in-app currency), which you purchase. RSVP tracking is available on both free and paid tiers, but the free option caps the number of guests. For a large event, costs can add up.

Best for: weddings, formal events, occasions where the invitation design truly matters and you're willing to pay for premium templates.

3. Partiful

Partiful is a newer platform that's grown quickly, especially among younger users. It has a more social, app-like feel — guests can see who else is attending, comment on the event page, and interact in a way that feels more like a social post than a traditional invitation.

This can be great for casual parties and social gatherings. It's less ideal if you want a private guest list (guests can see each other's names and responses by default), or if you're hosting a more formal event where a public-social vibe isn't quite right. RSVP tracking is built in and easy to use.

Best for: casual social events, parties with friend groups where the social interaction feature adds to the fun.

4. Canva

Canva is primarily a design tool, not an invitation platform — but it's worth including because so many people use it to create invitations. The design quality is excellent, and you have full creative control over your invitation artwork.

The limitation is that Canva doesn't have built-in RSVP tracking. You design a beautiful invitation, export it as an image or PDF, and then... you're on your own for collecting responses. Most people end up attaching a separate Google Form or asking guests to reply by text. It works, but it's a fragmented experience.

Best for: hosts who want maximum creative control over the design and are happy to manage RSVPs separately.

5. Occazion

Full disclosure: I built Occazion, so take this with that context in mind. That said, the reason I built it was because I was frustrated with the limitations of the other tools — and I think it genuinely fills a gap.

Occazion is free to start and combines elegant invitation templates with real built-in RSVP management. Every guest gets a personalised invitation link (not a generic form URL), and you can see every response — yes, no, maybe — in a live dashboard. You can resend invitations to non-responders with one click, and send invitations by both email and SMS.

There are no ads on your invitation, even on the free tier. The template library covers weddings, birthdays, baby showers, anniversaries, and more. And for hosts who want to share a public RSVP link (useful for events where the final guest list isn't fixed in advance), that's available too.

Best for: anyone who wants a clean, complete invitation-and-RSVP experience — from intimate dinners to large weddings — without ads or a steep paywall.

The most important thing a digital invitation platform can do is make RSVP tracking effortless. If you're still chasing guests for responses two days before your event, your platform isn't doing its job.

How to Choose the Right Tool for Your Event

All five platforms are worth trying for free before committing. Most events are one-off occasions — the right platform is whichever one makes you feel confident that your guests will actually respond, and that the invitation represents your event well.
